To the MAX!

The maxi dress skirt is huge for Spring, carrying on from its popularity in fall. Inspiration for this look comes from the bohemian maxi dresses from the 60's and 70's, the staple garment of every hippie girl. It has transformed to a modern skirt version.  Sometimes extremely minimal, or detailed with a different print to make it look current and fresh. This look is not as easy to pull of as some of the others and the wearer certainly must have a flair for fashion, but if you can pull it off it makes any outfit look chic!  The long skirt has been seen in all fabrics and prints, from grey jersey to silk and chiffon.  To make this look complete, I suggest pairing it with chunky heels. We hope to see you ladies getting MAXXY this spring and summer!

Inspiration: 1967 hippie style. Long, floral maxi skirts were all the rage in the 60's and 70''s.

Spring Is In the Air!

So, with the past couple weeks warming up to almost 75 degrees and spring break just a couple months away, I thought it important to showcase some of my favorite spring/summer trends! Of course, this is a season full of bright colors, floral prints, short shorts, sunnies, and floppy hats. I love to re-invent my wardrobe after a very drab, dull looking four or five months of winter! So, what do I look for? Fun and flirty silhouettes, cute bikinis, and of course, protection from those harmful UV rays! Sunglasses and hats are a good accessory to keep your skin in prime shape, and a great way to update your outfit! I also really love the bold, funky prints and colors that spring and summer bring into our wardrobes. Don't be afraid to take a chance and  Here are some examples of some spring forward celebrities fashioning their favorite fashion trends. Take a look!

Always on point fashionista Kate Bosworth. Seen in a basic tee, shorts, boho sandals, and sunnies. Second look: jean dress and sunnies.

So now for some of my favorites...

White Out

White was seen all over the runways and in recent magazines for Spring 2011. Alexander Wang, Rag & Bone, and Calvin Klein, among others, all incorporated white into their Spring collections. Calvin Klein featured white satin dresses, Rag & Bone displayed white pants, tops, as well as jackets, and VPL sent white jumpsuits down the runway. White dresses have also been worn by many celebrities on the red carpet. Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Amy Adams, and Rhianna, have all worn white in recent months to premieres and award ceremonies. You can wear head- to-toe white, or a simple white top or dress to be right on trend!

Can You Dig It??

Move over Mad Men! The most important decade to be inspired by is no longer the 1950's! Although that look is still around, the 70's have become the newest era to look back to.  Marc Jacobs featured the look of wide leg trousers for his runway show as well as 1970's  inspired dresses and accessories. His collection seems to be leading the way for this look.  High waisted, wide leg trousers and jeans are an easy way to showcase this trend that is flattering for all body types!  It instantly gives any outfit a sexy, vintage feel that looks much more fresh than the skinny jeans everyone is sporting these days!! They can be found at every price point, from Forever 21 to Tom Ford, so there is something for everyone in this trend! Below are images of celebrities, designers, Vogue editorials and my version of this look.

Chunky Monkey

A huge trend that we saw this past fall and that is continuing into the spring season is the oh so chic chunky heel. We are excited that this trend is being translated into spring with the use of colors such as pinks and turquoises. This trend adds a bit of edginess to an otherwise feminine outfit. Here we see celebrity fashionistas Rachel Bilson and Ashley Greene add just the right amount of boldness to their outfits with a great chunky heel. Furthermore, we pictured a few pairs that we think are a must for your closet this spring! (Heels pictured in order of appearance: Aldo, Jeffrey Campbell, and Dolce Vita, BDG.)
