Sheer Genius

Sheer tops, skirts, and dresses were seen on many Spring 2011 runways. Designers such as Givenchy, J Mendel, Alberta Ferretti, and Rag and Bone all featured sheer garments in their shows. Sheer skirts were definitely a standout, and I think the pieces seen are very versatile. Sheer can be worn as a sexy, revealing garment, or can be layered with other pieces to create a more casual and fun style. They look great with wedges or espadrilles on breezy Spring days. These sheer garments come in a variety of fabrics and styles, from many different designers and brands. Furthermore, you can find sheer garments at every price point, so whether you want to find a super trendy version at Forever 21, or spend some serious bucks on a classic and lasting piece such as Givenchy, you are sure to find these sheer pieces at retailers of every price range. The silk, crochet, and lace skirts pictured below will keep you right on trend. Wear them long or short, these skirts will surely make a statement as we head into the spring and summer months!

Skin is In: What to Wear to a Music Festival this Spring

As the weather warms up, it is once again music festival season.  Last week was South by Southwest in Austin, Texas.  In April we have Coachella in Indio, California.  The month of June has Bonnaroo in Manchester,Tennessee, then in August Lollapalooza in Chicago, Illinois. Bands like Arcade Fire, the Strokes, Warpaint, PJ Harvey and the National will be performing in the heat, which will bring out some fans with serious street style. These festivals are all about the music and the experience, however, every fashionista music fan needs to prepare herself with more than just water to get through the weekend! Think cropped tops and short shorts. These music festivals are the perfect time to break out your Levi cutoffs and embrace that Cali girl casual look. There are many styles that will help the ladies survive the heat and stay looking hot, not like a hot mess!
This 1970's inspired romper from American Apparel is ideal for movement, whether its dancing on stage or pushing your way through the crowds

A flirty,  floral mini dresses paired with a fedora from Forever 21 will keep you cool while listening to bands.

Every hipster girl needs the perfect pair of shades, like these by Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony
A bathing suit is a must, especially for those famous Coachella pool parties, and this Rodarte for Opening Ceremony one piece does the trick. Can be worn during the day with Levi cutoffs that are easily stripped off when its time to party!
The cropped tank top is still in this spring, perfect with high wasted shorts, both from American Apparel
Leopard print is sexy, but it has been in the spotlight for a few seasons and here, done in a cropped silhouette and worn with a floppy 1970's hat is a great way to look cool and protect your skin. Levi's cutoffs worn with Model brand top.
Blue denim is huge this spring, to make it music festival ready just cut off the sleeves! Vintage bongo shorts and vintage shirt from Nastygal.com
The accesories are just as important as the outfit! Stow your sunscreen and flask in this small leather backpack by Cooperative
These Huija sandals complete the look, but are only for the brave; chances are you will step in mud or your feet will get stepped on and definitely get dirty....
Or rock combat boots to protect your feet like this BC pair.

Have fun!

The Fall 2011 shows have just come to a close, and although we are heading away from the cold dreary days of winter, I thought I would share with you some of my favorite trends for, Fall 2011. Some trends that emerged for this Spring were seen again on Fall 2011 runways. Brightly colored pants in Spring's hottest styles such as, cropped, flared, tapered, and high waisted, re-emerged on Fall runways. Mid-calf length skirts, which are a trend for Spring, were also seen on the runways in a more streamlined silhouette. Some other trends were ponchos, vibrant shades of blue, and stripes. All of these trends are bringing in the new, colorful and vibrant color palettes to keep things warm during the cold fall and winter months. When the warm and bright days of summer fade away at least we will have something to look forward to! We are already anticipating the coming of Fall 2011!

To the MAX!

The maxi dress skirt is huge for Spring, carrying on from its popularity in fall. Inspiration for this look comes from the bohemian maxi dresses from the 60's and 70's, the staple garment of every hippie girl. It has transformed to a modern skirt version.  Sometimes extremely minimal, or detailed with a different print to make it look current and fresh. This look is not as easy to pull of as some of the others and the wearer certainly must have a flair for fashion, but if you can pull it off it makes any outfit look chic!  The long skirt has been seen in all fabrics and prints, from grey jersey to silk and chiffon.  To make this look complete, I suggest pairing it with chunky heels. We hope to see you ladies getting MAXXY this spring and summer!

Inspiration: 1967 hippie style. Long, floral maxi skirts were all the rage in the 60's and 70''s.
